Homemade Chili Oil

Any store bought chili oil pales in comparison to one made at home, because you can customize it exactly to your spice tolerance. Be sure to watch your heat, because spices can burn abruptly if you are not careful.

Prep

  1. Gather all of your equipment and ingredients.
  2. Slice 1 inch ginger into large thin slices.
  3. Mince 5 cloves of garlic.
  4. Measure out 1/2 cup canola oil and 2 tbsp sesame oil into a small bowl.
  5. Measure out 1 tbsp paprika, 1 tbsp chayenne pepper, 2 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes, 1/2 tbsp salt into a separate small bowl.

Cook

  1. In a small saucepan combine the oil, garlic, and ginger over medium-low heat.
  2. Allow mixture to heat up and when the garlic begins to sizzle, remove the ginger.
  3. Add in spice mix and turn heat to lowest setting.
  4. Stir gently and allow to infuse for 10 minutes.
  5. Turn off heat and allow oil to cool then taste and adjust seasoning with salt.
  6. Pour into a mason jar and keep refrigerated.
